Rocket Science1 min read

Recently, I had a fun, completely pointless discussion with a friend of mine – with whom such discussions are usually had. We disagreed on whether Rocket Science, or The Internet is a more complex machinery to handle.

To be continued… (Just wanted to update my WordPress, and ensure everything is working fine, so added a post to feel like this is a an active blog). But I did have that discussion, and although not that ‘interesting’ for a read, I will probably add the highlights of that discussion here.

More importantly, I realized that when I was making the argument, subconsciously, I created a straw-man argument, where I assumed Rocket-Science is merely about thrust in the opposite direction causing a lift. And that that mechanism, is a simple mechanism and therefore, the term “It’s not rocket-science” becomes silly (In being used as something complex or difficult to achieve), as there is nothing inherently difficult in filling up a balloon with air, and then letting it go !

Of course, real Rocket-Science is far more complex, and as my enlightened, Simpsons fan friend pointed out, with Rocket-Science, the margin for error is nil. You either get it right, or you die. Whereas, the margin for error in running the internet is huge. In fact, the entire Internet protocol works by assuming there is always an error, and then figuring out ways to create redundancies to fix and eliminate those errors.

We both then came to the conclusion, that both systems are insanely complex, but the most complex of them all is the entire Aviation industry!

Ah, I guess I did write everything I had to write about this topic.
